The beautiful Island of Cyprus hosts 3 International Airports, Larnaca, Paphos and Ercan. Then again, Larnaca Airport is Cyprus’s key Airport and the biggest of the 3 airports.
Larnaca International Airport is located on the South East of Cyprus and offers excellent access to the town of Larnaca itself as well as towns further afield, such as Ayia Napa and Protaras. Another option would be Paphos Airport located on the South West. This is nearby to Paphos itself and very close to the tourist resorts on the South West. Then we have the popular Ercan Airport. This is situated in Northern Cyprus (Turkish Occupied) and all airlines to Ercan fly via Turkey, due to the current political situation.
Larnaca International Airport is due to get bigger and more improved, with the new passenger terminal to open on November 11, 2009. The second part of the expansion is estimated to be complete in 2013. It is allegedly the largest construction project carried out in the Republic of Cyprus. It proposes new runway extensions, a new passenger building and superior facilities.
More than 33 airlines currently operate scheduled flights to and from Larnaca Airport. And another 2 airlines currently joined ranks in July 2009. Fly Baboo, a Swiss carrier and the Greek Astra Airways. With the airport expansion underway, the number of airlines flying in and out of Larnaca is sure to increase as well as more cheap flights to Larnaca Cyprus. As a guideline, it’s around a 4 hour, 30 minute journey from the UK to Larnaca.
